Our London Marathon top ten helping children harmed by crime

Embrace Child Victims of Crime is proud to announce our biggest London Marathon team ever – all fundraising to pay for vital support for children harmed by crime.

The TCS London Marathon takes place on Sunday 2 October 2022.

This year, we have 11 runners in #TeamEmbrace who have been training so hard for the 26.2 mile race.

Meet our running heroes:

Oliver Sutton, Sarah Kennedy, Bill Ford, Toni Austin, Matt Kenney and Oliver Hawkins are all from our corporate partners Telefonica Tech and were among the first to join Team Embrace.

We also have past and present police supporters: Duncan Eades from West Mercia Police, Kelly Monaghan from West Midlands Police and John McNally who previously worked for West Midlands Police and our individual supporters: Daniel Brosnan from Bedfordshire and Lindsay Bennett from London.

Wearing our eye-catching Embrace running vests, our marathon runners will be raising both awareness and vital funds to help heal the trauma and rebuild the lives of children and families harmed by crime.

Supporting 3,748 children and families across the UK

In 2021-22 we supported 3,748 children and families across the UK who had been harmed by crimes such as domestic abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation and violence. We provided £147,200 0f practical support from food vouchers to toys and school uniform. We also provided over 1,000 tickets to Merlin theme parks and attractions thanks to our partnership with the Merlin’s Magic Wand Children’s Charity.

Team Embrace Team member Duncan Eades said: “ I am really proud to have secured an Embrace London marathon place to raise money for such a fantastic charity that makes an enormous difference to the lives of children and young people who have been devastated by crime. Having been a police officer for 22 years I have seen first-hand the impact that crime has on children and families and running for Team Embrace is my opportunity to give something back and help make a difference.”

Embrace Child Victims of Crime is the only national children’s charity that focuses all its time on helping children, young people and families recover from the effects of crime.

The funds raised by Team Embrace will provide specialist services to help children and young people rebuild their lives, and reach their full potential.

Chief executive of Embrace Child Victims of Crime Anne Campbell said: Anyone who has taken on a marathon will tell you it is not something to be entered into lightly; training requires commitment and lots of determination and that is why we would like to say a huge thank you to this years’ runners for choosing to support our cause. We cannot wait to cheer you on the day!”
