Over £5,000 worth of toys and activities kindly donated by KidsOut to Alfie’s Hardship Fund

KidsOut a Bedfordshire based children’s support charity have donated over £5,000 worth of toys and activities to help young children, harmed by crime and now isolating inside due to COVID-19, enjoy themselves.

A BIG thank you goes Kids Out for donating some wonderful toys and activities that will be distributed by Embrace to children harmed by crime and now isolating at home. These toys will bring joy to many young faces and help promote social and educational development along with family bonding during these restricted times.

The children and families we support have suffered significant trauma through serious crime and these toys and activities will help them cope during this tough period – we can’t thank you enough! Unfortunately, many young victims of crime have been even more disadvantaged throughout the pandemic. Many already lived in cash-strapped homes – many more have been facing severe financial problems since the lockdown measures were enforced.

Chief executive Anne Campbell said: “We are extremely grateful to KidsOut for donating these toys and activities to Alfie’s Hardship Fund. They have come at a time where many children are in desperate need and these gifts will brighten their day.

We know that so many children have suffered during lockdown because they live in households where domestic violence and sexual abuse is all too common.

This is a great opportunity to help us to provide more practical support through our Family Support Packages that will go to some of the most vulnerable children in the country.”

Our COVID crisis appeal ‘ALFIE’S HARDSHIP FUND’ was launched back in March to provide practical and emotional support to children who have been harmed by crime and who are living in households where there is little or no income as a result of Covid-19 measures.

Our Family Support Packages are aimed at providing some relief for these families. Each package is tailored to the needs of the family and the number of children. Items are centred around the three ‘Es’ – Essentials, Educational and Entertainment, and they include supermarket vouchers, educational items to aid home schooling as well as toys and activities for lockdown amusement. We also provide the means for a young person to receive emotional support if it is needed.
