Embrace KIDVA team expands to help more children harmed by domestic abuse across Bedfordshire

We are thrilled to announce that from April 2024, Embrace CVoC will be expanding their KIDVA (Child Independent Domestic Violence Advisors) team due to the recognised demand in Luton.  The two new posts, funded by Luton Borough Council, will join our established team to support children and young people harmed by domestic abuse across Bedfordshire.

KIDVAs provide support to children and young people who have witnessed abuse, or been assaulted or abused themselves, by a parent or close family member.  Embrace’s child-centred approach provides emotional support, safety planning and practical support to these children, ensuring their voices are heard by professionals and family.  The new roles will have a specific focus on supporting children impacted by domestic abuse, and also those who are displaying harmful behaviours towards parents and siblings as a result of the abuse their have witnessed.

These additions to the Embrace KIDVA team emphasises the commitment to addressing domestic violence and its far-reaching impacts across Luton and Bedfordshire. Jenny Raine, Head of Service Delivery said “We are delighted to introduce two new Child Independent Domestic Violence Advisors to our team.  Their expertise and dedication will be instrumental in providing crucial support to children and families affected by domestic violence across Luton, ensuring that we can support more children who have been harmed by crime.”

The significant of these roles, particularly in the context of safeguarding children, who are often the hidden victims of domestic abuse, cannot be overstated.  By offering specialised support and guidance, KIDVAs play a pivotal role in breaking the cycle of violence and fostering environments of safety and healing for families in need.

Last year over 330 children were supported to our KIDVA services across Bedfordshire and demand for this one-to-one support is increasing.  One parent said “Embrace have been amazing and truly have been a rock for my family and they gave a voice.  Britany* has been helped by you so much and will remember the strategies talked about for year to come.”
