Bedfordshire Police Officers are taking part in an Inter Police event, Snowdonia Seven which sees police forces from across the country taking part in a race to complete the seven peaks of Snowdonia in under 10 hours.
The event has been held annually since 1974 and still embodies the original ethos of developing ‘Fitness, Teamwork and Endurance’. To complete the challenge, teams of four must travel 22 miles, over seven peaks (with a total ascent of almost 8000 feet) in under 10 hours, carrying a safety kit.
On Saturday 6 July 2019, a number of Bedfordshire Police Officers will running for the hills all in aid of their chosen charity Embrace Child Victims of crime.
Detective Constable Jenny Bryce says,
‘The Snowdonia Seven challenge is by far one of the most challenging things I have ever done in my life (both mentally and physically), but I loved every single minute and have signed up to do it again this year.
As a result of taking part in this challenge I have met lots of people I wouldn’t normally come into contact with, some of whom are now good friends. Although this event is not a dedicated charity event we have decided to put all of our hard work to good use this year and fundraise for Embrace CVOC, so please dig deep and help motivate us by donating generously.’
Embrace is a national charity that provides practical, cheer-up and counselling support to children across the UK who have been victims or otherwise affected by crime.
Much of their work helps young victims of violence and sexual abuse overcome trauma to go on and lead healthy and happier lives, through the provision of specialist emotional support.
The charity is also takes referrals for practical or cheer up support, where this will help victims and their families’ better cope and move on from their ordeal.
Chief Executive Anne Campbell says,
‘Seven peaks in 10 hours is no mean feat but I know the Bedfordshire team will push themselves to complete this challenge for Embrace, keeping up their fantastic track record of raising money to support young victims of crime.’
