Introducing the University of Lincoln Athletics and Cross Country Club.

Embrace Child Victims of Crime (Embrace) is delighted to announce that Lincoln University Athletics Club has chosen to fund-raise exclusively for the charity over the course of the next year.

Club members will be taking part in a number of planned sporting events, including the Lincoln Santa Run and the Lincoln 10k, and Captain Harry Langham taking on his own challenge running the 34 miles from Lincoln to Boston. 

Embrace is the only national children’s charity solely focused on supporting children and young people through the trauma of experiencing serious crime such as sexual abuse, domestic violence and homicide.

Children, nominated by frontline professionals, can access a range of emotional, practical and cheer-up support that helps cope and recover. 

The Lincoln Athletics and Cross Country Club fund-raising drives has been motivated by the experience of its committee member Rhys Dickinson. 

As a boy, Rhys was the victim of physical and sexual abuse. After the perpetrator was convicted and jailed, he and his family were supported by Embrace on a peer group support trip to Disneyland in Florida. He credits the charity with influencing his recovery.

“The support given by Embrace to me and my family was amazing. The trip was just what we needed, taking our mind of what had happened and allowing us to spend quality time together in a magical environment and without any worry,” said Rhys, a postgraduate law student.

“Now, with my club members, I can give back to the charity that helped me and help other children, who have suffered childhood trauma like me, to recover and move on with their lives in a positive way.”

Embrace Chief Executive Anne Campbell said: “Rhys has been incredibly brave opening up about his experience and inspiring other children who have survived to seek help and support.

“We think the whole team look incredibly smart in their Embrace sports vest and look forward to cheering them on at their charity challenges this year.”
