Could you be part of the Embrace lucky 10?

On 3 October 2021 runners across the UK are due to make history by taking part in the BIGGEST marathon ever staged anywhere in the world.

This year’s London Marathon will combine a physical race of 50,000 runners in the capital and a virtual race with 50,000 runners completing their own marathon distance, wherever they are in the UK, on what ever route they choose, within 24 hours.

The virtual Virgin Money London Marathon was held for the first time in 2020, when more than 37,000 runners, from all corners of the world, completed the race. The final finishing total of 37,966 meant it is in the official Guinness World Records for the ‘Most users to run a remote marathon in 24 hours’.

This year organisers are aiming to smash this record by combining the traditional London race from Blackheath to The Mall, with a virtual one on the same day.

Embrace CVOC has secured 10 places in this very special virtual race and we are looking for 10 special people who would like to run it for us and raise vital funds to support children and young people who have suffered terrible trauma because of serious crime.

Anne Campbell, chief executive of Embrace Child Victims of Crime, said: “For those who enjoy running, and for our supporters who relish a challenge, this is a unique opportunity to make history and raise vital funds for our charity. If you are interested in taking part please get in touch.”

Runners will need to track their marathon on The Official Virgin Money London Marathon App, which will enable participants to log their 26.2 miles and earn their coveted medal and a finisher t-shirt.

Many of those children and young people supported by Embrace CVOC have lived in homes plagued by domestic violence, some have lost a parent or sibling who have been killed because of serious crimes, others have suffered sexual or physical abuse or neglect.

Embrace helps those children rebuild their lives, self-esteem and self confidence through a package of therapeutic and practical support from counselling and trauma-informed emotional support therapies to practical support providing food, toys, school uniform, or phones and tablets to help them access the help they need.
