Amazon gives Dear Santa £5,000

10 December 2020

Amazon is backing our Dear Santa campaign to deliver a magical Christmas for children who have suffered trauma through serious crime with a £5,000 donation.

Peterborough-based national charity Embrace Child Victims of Crime (Embrace CVOC) launched its Dear Santa 2020 campaign last month to provide Christmas gifts of choice for children harmed by serious crime.

Every child who is referred to the Dear Santa campaign gets the opportunity to choose a gift they would like to receive from Santa.

You can buy those gifts through Embrace’s website and when you make a purchase Santa’s elves will gift wrap it for you and ensure it gets to the child who wished for it.

The Amazon donation will buy around 170 gifts.

Victor Pulido, General Manager at Amazon in Peterborough, said: “Amazon is passionate about supporting charities that care for vulnerable people in our community. The staff and volunteers of Embrace Child Victims of Crime do important work in Peterborough to make these children’s lives better, and we wanted to recognise their hard work with this donation. Thank you for all that you do.”

Anne Campbell, Chief Executive of Embrace CVOC, said: “We are so grateful to Victor and his team for making this generous donation. It’s fantastic to be recognised by such an established business in the area, and we can’t thank them enough for helping us deliver smiles to children this Christmas through our Dear Santa campaign. For many of the children we support it will be the only gift they receive this year and this will enable us to buy gifts for about 170 more children.” The donation was made as part of the “Amazon in the Community” programme, whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Community donations is one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19. Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering 1.4 million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.

About Embrace

Embrace CVOC is a unique charity because it is the only organisation in the UK that solely supports child victims of crime. Some of the children supported by Embrace CVOC have lost a parent or sibling because they have been unlawfully killed. Some of them have experienced sexual, physical or emotional abuse or they may have suffered years of neglect. It might be they have been living in a home torn apart by domestic violence. These children have dealt with unimaginable trauma in their young lives and police officers, teachers or others who work in safeguarding roles will have referred them to Embrace CVOC to get the help and support they need.
